Day 7

23 juli 2017 - Marthrown of Mabie, Verenigd Koninkrijk

Hiya!

Today we finished what we started yesterday; we limewashed the walls of the roundhouse. The preparation actually took quite some time: first we had to walk up a pretty steep hill to get to the roundhouse, then we had to get ourselves into our coveralls, glasses and showercaps, after that we had to mix the lime putty with water and then we could finally start painting. After we were done with the inside, we had to start on the outside. There was only one small problem: we had run out of lime putty. After discussing our predicament with Steve, he told us that we should just try to cover as much of the outside as possible. It doesn’t seem all that horrible, but the end of the straw roof reaches to about 20 cm above the ground, so we had to get into the space underneath, which is very small. It was also the home of at least 30 spiders. Coincidentally, I believe I have beat my own personal record of amount of spiders killed in one day. When we had completely run out of lime putty, we decided (together with Steve, don’t worry) to call it a day.

Because the weather was extraordinarily beautiful (for Scotland of course), we decided that today was the perfect day to try a challenge famous on the camping: the water bucket challenge. Basically, there is an installation in which a bucket is filled up, and when it is filled to brim it turns around so the ice-cold water falls on top of the person below. It is there because there are also a hot tub and a sauna, and it is not unusual to swim in a cold pool afterwards going into either of these things, so instead of the pool they have the bucket. We dried up in the sun while, surprise surprise, playing some games, and ended our day with a wonderful meal.

See you!
