Travelling

23 juli 2017 - Dumfries and Galloway, Verenigd Koninkrijk

Hello!

Firstly, I'd like to apologize that my blogs are only now online, after the actual internship. I do have a good reason for that: we did not have any internet while at the campsite, so there wasn't any opportunity to post them. For now though, enjoy reading my story!

Day one and two of our adventure (read: internship) consisted of travelling. We were driven to Ijmuiden to catch our boat by Amber’s dad (thanks Martijn) and got there nicely on time at 16:30. After checking in and entering the boat we first dropped our luggage in our small-but-effective cabin. Then we went to explore the boat, which was something like a maze: in the 16 hours that we were on board, we got lost at least five times. One time we accidentally wound up in the car park… Oops. After eating our (self-brought!) dinner, we went outside to appreciate the view. It was kind of very windy, which posed a problem when we tried to eat our ice cream (and accidentally hurt Amber). After that we played some games and went to sleep.

This morning we woke up on time to appreciate the view some more, and then went to repack our bags. When we arrived in Newcastle we had to go through border control. The lady looked quite worried when, upon seeing that we were all minors, she asked: “who are you travelling with?” and we answered: “us.” But we were still allowed to enter the country (after some more questions and thanks to our great preparation) and could immediately enter our bus. After that it was smooth sailing: we even perfectly managed our train transfer (which is nothing short of a miracle). Our contact person, Pam Hazlehurst, was waiting for us when we arrived in Dumfries, and immediately took us grocery shopping.

When we arrived on the campsite, which is located in a beautiful forest on a hill, we first settled into our room, and then got a tour of the premises. Then we made our own dinner, and settled down to write our blogs.

Hope to see you again!
